trick-or-treating

Halloween night was crazy. The girls were taking forever to eat dinner and it seemed liked everything was running in slow motion. The costumes were laid out and ready to go. The girls were dying for me to wear the flapper outfit again, but that wasn't happening. I told them I would wear one of their capes and masks and be a superhero. Then the lightbulb went off in my head and I was transformed into...
Best three minute costume ever invented. Go ahead. You know it's brilliant and you want to borrow it. The girls loved it and thought I was the coolest mom ever.

You really want to see my Little Red Riding Hood.

 And the fancy ghost.

These girls are over pictures about two minutes into it so I have to snap fast.
 My two minutes was up.
First stop was the neighbors house where April took our yearly family photo in her yard.
Then we were off.

These girls got so much candy that it was hard to get them and the bags in the wagon at the same time. As you can see, they had one piece too many.

And because I bribed them with one more piece of candy I got a couple more pictures out of them. Me and my girls.
The girls and their daddy.

Happy Halloween!

costumes, round two

Morgan was allowed to dress up for Halloween at school. Instead of candy they trick-or-treat for their lunch. For the second year in a row she opted for the tiger ensemble.

Her teacher was kind enough to snap this one for me.
Maybe I took a million of almost the same picture. Doesn't matter. She's the cutest!

pumpkin carving

We cut it close this year. We waited until the week of Halloween to get a pumpkin and who knew there was a pumpkin shortage? The patches were out and most of the stores were as well. Good thing the fancy patch at Publix came through for me. Addison chose a cat for her pumpkin and Morgan an owl. Addison was very hands on this year.
They quickly got to work. They started with spoons, but I encouraged them to get their hands dirty.
Addison had no problem digging in and getting those guts out.

Morgan was much more girly about it. She didn't like the way it felt or how it was going to make her hands dirty. After checking it out she decided to give it a try.
But it didn't last long. She went back to the spoon.
I yelled out that it was time to go carve pumpkins and asked them to put shoes on. Morgan goes into her room and comes back out with just this leotard on. I was dying. I sent her back in to at least put some shorts on. Not your typical pumpkin carving outfit, but I guess it works.

Addison insisted that she was old enough to actually use the knife and carve her pumpkin this year. We some serious supervision and help I let her give it a try. She actually did the majority of it by herself.
Yes I'm white as a ghost, and yes I have pumpkin all over my legs. Carving is definitely a messy job.
Another successful year of pumpkin carving.

pumpkin patch, round two

Before hitting the patch for a second time we headed to a little festival down at the beach. They had crafts, a costume parade and trick-or-treating. Any excuse for the girls to dress up.

Her royal highness delicately eats a cookie.

Everything came off and they changed in the car. The costumes were too itchy in the car seats. These poor girls. They get their OCD from me.
Did you hear about the pumpkin shortage this year? It was really a thing. The patch was pretty much out of pumpkins so the girls just did a lot of running around and took silly pictures.

When it was time to take a serious picture, no one wanted to calm down and cooperate. Sometimes it's like pulling teeth with these two. Eventually Addison decided to "strike a pose". Yes, she said those words out loud.

Morgan pretended to be an angel for just a few minutes.

Then they were back to their normal sister selves. Fighting, bickering and not wanting to touch each other.
Despite all of that, we had a great day.

pumpkin patch, round one

Just like years past, Morgan's class took a field trip to the pumpkin patch. They had all kind of activities planned. First up was the hayride. Definitely one of the best parts of the morning.
Caramel apple crushed ice was the snack of the day. I think I liked it more than Morgan.
They had story time, science center where they learned the stages of a pumpkin, and craft time. Morgan is all about the crafts.

The freckles on the scarecrow were all her idea. I thought it was super cute.
The finished product. There are magnets on the back so it can be displayed on the refrigerator. That really is the best part.
Daddy showed up just in time for play time.

Last but not least, the yearly photos in the pumpkin patch. I love this sweet girl so much.
