one on one time

We've recently been spending some more one on one time with the girls. In this case it was a forced situation because Morgan had a birthday party to go to, but it turned out fun for everyone.

Morgan was invited to her first birthday party by a school friend. We've been to family parties and gatherings, but this one was just her and her friends. They had a bounce house and a bunch of toys set outside for the kids to play with, but Morgan was attached to this car. I had to convince her to get out of the car so some of her friends could have a turn. She's pretty good about sharing so she gave it up, but as soon as it was empty again she bolted for it. As for the bounce house. We were in there for about 5 minutes and I had to hold her and bounce the entire time. We probably won't be having one at her birthday party.
While we were at the party Michael took Addison to her lunch of choice, which was McDonalds's, and then to Fort Caroline. She loves being outdoors, exploring and hiking. From the looks of the pictures he took she really enjoyed it. I'm a little bit upset that she let him take such good pictures. And he dressed her so there is no part of her that matches.

She got a cheeseburger Happy Meal and Michael said she ate the whole thing in no time flat. This just goes to show that when the girls eat together all they do is play. They don't eat and it takes them forever to eat the little that they do. She got that purple monkey in her Happy Meal and it's her new favorite thing. It doesn't leave her sight.
Sunday we reversed and took the girls on shopping excursions. Addison and I went to Old Navy so she could actually try on some skirts (she's still wearing 3T) and Morgan went grocery shopping with Michael. Nothing really exciting, but still some time for us to sit and chat alone with the girls. It's amazing how much they can talk and how much they have to say.

sleepover

I'm a little late at posting this, but late is better than never.

Addison had her first sleepover that didn't include family members. Her friend Jake had his 5th birthday about a month ago and he only wanted to have a sleepover with his best buds. And that includes Addison. They've known each other since they were about one year old and it shows. They get along great. I thought there might be some hesitation when I dropped her off, but I was wrong.

Ben, Addison and Jake riding bikes and scooters.
Yep. It was a co-ed sleepover. Just the three of them. I figured at 4 and 5 years old it was okay and really cute. I'm a cool mom like that. I only checked in one time. They just finish a movie and were sound asleep. Jessica sent this to me.
Success all around. Addison had a blast. However, Morgan was so confused. She couldn't figure out why her sister wasn't around. It may have been the most time they've been away from each other. There's definitely a bond there that I hope will last forever.

story time

By lunch time yesterday I was ready for a nap. I went with Morgan on her first field trip. I spent two hours with 11 two and three year olds. Do you know how much energy they have? It started on the bus. Everyone had to be buckled into the built in car seats. The excitement of the first bus ride was buzzing all around. Morgan got a little scared when the motor cranked up. Then we took off. All of the kids were giggling and cheering. Morgan was happy I was sitting next to her.
The trip to the library took about 10 mintues. Then they all had to be unbuckled. We couldn't move quick enough. They were ready for story time. Everyone did really well. They sat and listened, they sang songs, they jumped up and down like monkeys. I had a smile on my face the whole time. So did Morgan.
Morgan needed my sun glasses because the sun was too bright. Sensitive, just like me.
Morgan had a great time and so did I. This is a great group of kids and their teachers are fantastic. A lot of the credit should be given to them. Sign me up for the next one, but I'd like to add a stop to Starbucks on the route.

the time has come

The girls are set with shoes. My best friend Shannon works for Footlocker and hooks them up. They get new shoes every birthday and Christmas and love it. For years Addison has been wearing Skechers Twinkle Toes. They are her favorite. Her foot has slowed in growth so the most recent ones she's been wearing have been around awhile. A long while.
They're scratched, scraped, scuffed, missing crystals, torn, and black from dirt. There is so much dirt and sand caked on the inside of them that even after a good cleaning she still has sand in her toes when I take her socks off. They're just bad.
I pulled out her new purple and black Nike's, which are still a little big, and decided that we were going to wing it. Then I decided that I want a pair of those Nike's - (Shannon: hook me up!). We added a new pair of Tinker Bell shoes and then went for it. We threw out the Twinkle Toes.
I should have sent them off for some kind of science experiment. They were that gross. I was a little sad to see them go, but it was time.

a story about addison

Michael and I switch off for bedtime routines. He'll read to Morgan, I'll read to Addison and then we switch the next night. It works for us. They both know what to expect and neither one of them can fuss about who is reading and tucking them in that night.

Morgan wasn't feeling well yesterday. She didn't look like herself when I saw her after school and she kept saying that her tummy hurt. She was whiny and clinging all evening. When bedtime came around it was Michael's turn to read and put her to bed, but all she wanted was her mommy. I was sitting on the couch with her lying on my chest and Addison comes in. With the sweetest look on her face she continues with...

Mommy. I know tonight is your night to put me to bed, but I have an idea. Since Morgan is sick and it will make her feel better, you can put her to bed tonight. I know she wants you to do it and that's okay with me. You just have to put me to bed tomorrow night.

I could not have been more proud of her. The whole thing was so sweet and she wholeheartedly wanted her sister to feel better. My heart melted, I kissed her about 30 times and told her that was one of the sweetest things a big sister could do. After Morgan was down I went in again and told Addison how proud I was of her. My heart was beaming.

1977

On this day in 1977 my grandpa turned 61 years old. According to his journal, which I have in front of me, the low temp was 32 degrees and the high for the day was 62 degrees. 9.6 gallons of gas cost $5. He went to Ocala to look at a cattle trailer and then purchased feed for $7.28. Mom stopped over and took the dog Brownie home with her. Grandpa called my Aunt Karen. Aunt Pam came over for cake and coffee in the evening. And the meter had a reading of 8696 at 5:30 p.m.

He was a simple man. If he were alive today he would be 96. We would go over there, have cake, ice cream and coffee. The whole scene is so vivid in my head it's like it really happen. And it did. Starting the year I was born - 1977 - and every birthday for the next 25 years.

Happy Birthday Grandpa.

da plane

I think I've mentioned it before, but Michael's nephew is now going to school at Embry-Riddle in Daytona. He already has his private pilots license and can fly a small plane by himself. All of that in about 6 months. Scares the heck out of me. This past weekend was family weekend at the school so we went down to visit for the day. We took the girls to the observation tower to watch the planes take off and land.

I love this picture of Morgan. She was so content.
They had a couple small planes and a private jet open for us to climb around in. The girls thought they were hot stuff. Addison looks like she's done this before.

Morgan in the driver's seat. Addison was in this small plane for 2.2 seconds and then started to have a panic attack. That's Matthew on the left showing her how it's done.
We scored free lunch and t-shirts, a tour of the campus via Matthew, and a lesson in the flight simulator. We learned that Michael does not have it in him to be a pilot. He drove the plane like a race car and then crashed in the ocean. After two tries the instructor kicked him out.

It's such an easy day trip to take and the girls love seeing their cousin. Michael is looking forward to flying soon. He can have it.

love day, part deux

Yesterday was so much fun. Both Michael and I were able to go to the school and hang out with the girls during the Valentine festivites. Addison's class had a group mailbox they put all of their cards in. I was lucky enough to help pass all of them out. Then they had a fun lunch with all kinds of vegetables to try. I think most of the kids were hungry when dinner rolled around last night.
Michael snuck over to Morgan's class and went for a little walk with them to the church courtyard where they read a book. Afterwards they had a pizza party to celebrate a Valentine birthday in the class. Pizza, juice boxes, and cupcakes in one sitting. She was a happy girl.

The girls and I came home to find flowers and chocolate cake from daddy. They were so excited. Michael and I celebrated with PF Chang's take-out, cheesecake and wine. The girls opened a couple of small things from us. What's Valentine's Day without chocolate.

Michael is having made a super sweet necklace for me. It has two footprints and the girls names engraved on it. I love it just as much as I love these sweet frames they surpised us with. They were both hand painted at school. The look on Morgan's face melts my heart. And Addison is growing up so fast. She's writing all kinds of words now. If you look closely you'll see a "T" on the frame. She puts this power T on EVERYTHING she crafts because Michael has brainwashed her into such a Tennessee fan. I'm a little upset that I have to look at it every time I look at the frame, but I'll get over it. If it makes her happy then it makes me happy.

Ugh!

love day

I tend to go a little overboard on Valentine's Day. I'm a mom. It's what I do. It all starts with a little photo shoot. I put the kids in Valentine's pajamas, bribed them with lollipops and promised them a piece of candy when it was over. It worked.
Then you take those pictures and make cute Valentine's Day cards for all their friends and teachers.

I involved the girls with all of the activities. We filled these cute little red and pink cups with all kinds of goodies for their friends. Attach a card and there you have it. Fun Valentine's. The girls were so excited to bring these to school today.
I spent most of the day Sunday making Oreo balls for the teachers and the adult people I love. I even let the kids put sprinkles on them. Tonight they'll get a little present and homemade cards from Michael and I. I love celebrating Love Day with my girls.

candy land

I've been sick and have had zero energy for the last 3 days. Good thing playing Candy Land doesn't take that much energy. This was the first time Morgan has really played with us and understood what she was doing. Every time she would pick a card she would get this excited.
I love the pure joy in her face. And how she still says "lello". It was like every card was the best card. I want to bottle up these moments.

For the record, she won.

super bowl

We had no plans for the Super Bowl so we decided to have our own little party at home. The girls and I made pigs in a blanket together. Then I pulled out the never used quesadilla maker and whipped up some of those. Put a kiddie table in the middle of the living room and you have yourself a party.
We all jammed to the halftime show and then the girls were off to bed. Their favorite part was LMFAO. Or as they call them, the Party Rock guys!

100

Today is the 100th day of VPK. They had to bring in 100 items to make a collage. Addison chose gold coins.
They have all kinds of fun stuff planned for today. A parade, a special morning snack, and counting to 100. But Addison is most excited about the Rice Krispy treat at lunch.
