a story about addison

Michael and I switch off for bedtime routines. He'll read to Morgan, I'll read to Addison and then we switch the next night. It works for us. They both know what to expect and neither one of them can fuss about who is reading and tucking them in that night.

Morgan wasn't feeling well yesterday. She didn't look like herself when I saw her after school and she kept saying that her tummy hurt. She was whiny and clinging all evening. When bedtime came around it was Michael's turn to read and put her to bed, but all she wanted was her mommy. I was sitting on the couch with her lying on my chest and Addison comes in. With the sweetest look on her face she continues with...

Mommy. I know tonight is your night to put me to bed, but I have an idea. Since Morgan is sick and it will make her feel better, you can put her to bed tonight. I know she wants you to do it and that's okay with me. You just have to put me to bed tomorrow night.

I could not have been more proud of her. The whole thing was so sweet and she wholeheartedly wanted her sister to feel better. My heart melted, I kissed her about 30 times and told her that was one of the sweetest things a big sister could do. After Morgan was down I went in again and told Addison how proud I was of her. My heart was beaming.
